Northern California Urology Medical Clinic offers the most up to date treatment options and consultation for the following: - Impotence/ erectile dysfunction: Impotence is a condition many men live with because they are too embarrassed to discuss it. Impotence is usually due to a physical problem, which can almost always be treated by several approaches; however, because of the potential for serious causative factors ( coronary heart disease and ED are very closely linked and ED can be a warning of a pending heart attack or stroke), simply taking Viagra, Levitra, Cialis or other drugs without a medical evaluation is potentially quite dangerous. Before treating the symptoms, a search should be made for the cause of the problem. Another issue is what do you do when your medication (Viagra, Levitra, Cialis or injection therapy) lose their effectiveness or stop working altogether. There are highly satisfactory alternatives.
- Urinary incontinence: Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. There are several causes/reasons for uriniary incontinence and the evaluations used to differentiate them are easy and painless. Each type of incontinence has a different, specific treatment and most people with incontinence can be successfully treated or cured. Newer treatments are being introduced. One of the more exciting forms of treatment for urgency incontinence (also referred to as over active bladder with incontinence) is Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation. This highly effective treatment eliminates the need for continuous taking of medication with the annoying and sometimes dangerous side effects, or surgical treatments and is well worth investigating.
- Vasectomy reversals: Successful reversals are possible in most cases, and are done in outpatient settings.
- Kidney stone disease: Kidney stones can appear quite suddenly, and are often chronically troublesome. Dr. Roth has received special advanced training in the newest technologies related to kidney stone removal. Minimally invasive lithotripsy is available. In addition, merely clearing the stone or stones is only part of the treatment. Metabolic evaluations can reveal the cause of repeated stone formation and what steps need to be taken to avoid further episodes or stone formation and pain. There are also certain diseases that are heralded by the formation of stones, such as hyperparathyroidism, kidney disease, uric acid metabolic abnormalities, eg. gout, that can be diagnosed and treated before they become serious threats to the patient's well being.

- Male infertility: Male factor infertility is responsible for about one third of fertility problems. It is possible to correct a number of male factors, making spontaneous conception possible without the need for invasive procedures on the female. In addition, recent studies have indicated a higher incidence of testicular cancer associated with male factor infertility (approximately 37 times the rate found in normal men). This can and should be easily screened for with simple in-office tests.
- Prostate cancer: Prostate cancer is the most prevalent cancer among men. Early detection is the key to successful treatment. Every male over the age of 45 should undergo regular prostate evaluation.
- Prostate enlargement/ BPH: BPH is a common problem for men over 50. BPH is Benign-not Benevolent, and there are many different treatments available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

- Hematuria: Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine, whether microscopic (invisible to the eye) or macroscopic (visible). It is potentially a very serious symptom. Approximately 20% of those with this finding are found to have significant urinary system disease. Among those, approximately 1/5 will turn out to be cancerous. Because cancers of the urinary tract are generally easily treatable when caught early and not, when they are allowed to progress. The full evaluation of this finding should not be ignored. Though generalists, family physicians, and PCPs often attribute hematuria to urinary infection, and are often correct, the results of missing an early bladder cancer are disasterous for the patient. Therefore, the finding of hematuria should always be evaluated by the physician specifically trained to do so, a urologist.
- Bladder/urinary tract infections: Bladder/urinary tract infections are fairly common, but are not inevitable for women, or men. The symptoms of "repeated urinary tract infections" can actually be due to other diseases such as Interstitial Cystitis , urinary stones or bladder cancer (especially if accompanied by gross or.. microscopic hematuria). For this reason, repeated "urinary infections", especially with blood in the urine, should be evaluated and treated by a urologist.
